Rhapsody in Time of War
“Rhapsody in Time of War” is a piece for solo piano and symphonic wind orchestra, composed by Jiries Boulata and arranged by Melanie Maria Warschun. Originally written for solo piano in 2014 during the war on Gaza titled “Arabic Rhapsody”, it was later arranged into several chamber versions, including string quintet, oriental ensemble, and a cello and piano version.
Qalandia
“Qalandia” is a composition by Jiries Boulata named after the checkpoint situated between Jerusalem and Ramallah. This piece vividly depicts the struggles associated with movement, the frequent traffic jams, and the scenes observed at this checkpoint. Utilizing complex rhythms, such as 7/8 time, it mirrors the inconsistent pace of movement. The blend of Latin blues style within the composition symbolizes the enduring struggle for the freedom of movement. The piece is performed by Mazaj Ensemble.
